1850's Wall Maps

The first detailed published road maps were the 1850s wall maps.  From 1854-1859 a series of 11 remarkably detailed maps of Vermont were produced as large wall maps.  Pictured here is the 1858 Map of Orange County by H.F. Walling. For most of Vermont, these were the first road maps.  The inset below is from the Rutland County map by James Scott.
